What Type of Gym User Are You?

The gym has a unique ability to bring so many different people together for one common goal and purpose: fitness. Every person is there because they ultimately want to be healthy and in shape, but there are still many different ways to approach it and go about it. While the gym's environment is pretty diverse, there are a few types of people that you can always count on seeing these five most common ones. And you most likely belong to one of them.

The Cardio Junkie

Cardio Junkie is always on the treadmill or on the bike because the Cardio Junkie is going to do anything and everything they can to get sweaty and boost their heartbeat. As mentioned, they are always found sweating buckets on the treadmill, elliptical, or a bike, which is why they can never be seen in the weight room. If you are a Cardio Junkie, you find cardio to be your stress-release activity, and weights are your worst nightmare.

The Procrastilifter

The Procrastilifter is the pro doing nothing and looking extremely busy and worked up. Procrastilifter is the person who sits on a machine scrolling through their phone, texting, or scrolling through Instagram instead of actually using the machine the way it's intended to be used (i.e., for actual exercising). The Procrastilifter can also be found flexing in front of the mirror or at the water fountain.

The Resolutioner

You might be a Resolutioner if you had decided to go to the gym right around this time of the year. Resolutioners join the gym's population that surfaces from the months of January to February and a lot of them retreat for the remainder of the year. If you are not a Resolutioner, you probably noticed them occupying machines at all times of the day, not just the peak hours of 4 to 7 pm. If you are a Resolutioner, then this is a position you can get promoted to the avid gym-goer, you just need to keep pushing.

The Night Owl

The Night Owl exercises exclusively after dark, once when all of the work and life obligations are over. Night Owls show up when the rest of the world goes to bed, and they leave when the gym minutes before it closes. If you are a Night Owl, you likely have a schedule that is too hectic to fit in a workout during the day. Or maybe you enjoy the relative solitude of the night shift.

The Rookie

There is overlap between the Rookie and the Resolutioner, except you can be a Rookie any time of the year. The Rookie is easily recognized by their fearful and/or confused look. A Rookie tends to misuse the exercise equipment. If you are a Rookie, it is essential to get out of your head, because other gym-goers do not judge you nearly as much as you think you are being judged. Everyone has to start somewhere! Just keep going, you are on the right track!
